Collection: Juan Francisco Quinteros
The surroundings of San Cristóbal hill have signs of being populated since Early Horizon period [900 BCE], being inhabited by the Lima culture, then the Yschma, and finally the Incas in 1470, who united the valleys of Rímac, Lurín and Chillón into the province of Pachacamac. It was organized into 3 domains, and each domain into different chiefdoms, San Cristóbal hill forming part of the Chiefdom of Taulichusco, with the home of the chief on one of its slopes. In this last era, the hill began to gain prominence, considered by the Incas as an Apu or god protector of the Rímac Valley, to which they still make offerings on the same day as the Festival of Crosses: It’s name: Apu Ucharu / Machu Alay
