Collection: Sasha Barrionuevo Shorty - New Mexico

My name is Sasha Barrionuevo Shorty and I am a Native American beader from Abiquiu, New Mexico. My father, Eddy Shorty, is from the Navajo Nation and my mother, Paula Narbutovskih, is half Russian,  German, and Scottish, from Pennsylvania. They are both artists; my father is a stone sculptor, and my mother is a landscape painter.

I started beadwork at an early age, around 9 years old, and would share a booth with my dad at the Eight Northern Pueblos market. I won best in show one year for my beadwork.

I earned a B.A. in English literature from Dartmouth College.

I am married with three small children and  live in Abiquiu with my husband Cesar, who is an organic herb farmer from Bolivia.
