Association of Creative Women Entrepreneurs of Lambayeque, Peru.
These contemporary textiles are made using ancestral techniques by the women artisans of this Northern Peruvian province. From the age of five or six, the women of this community learn to spin yarn by hand from the sheep they raise on the steep Andean slopes. This small tropical region encompasses coastline, cloud forest, and highlands. The diversity of climate and elevation provides a variety of local flora that the women use to dye the wool. They use small looms that they attach to their waist to weave their beautiful blankets. The vibrant colors reflect the biodiversity of this unique area and the tight weave reveals the deft touch of these highly-skilled artisans.
